Sony switches HQ of mobile business back to Japan after end of Ericsson JV, with loss of 1,000 jobs

Sony Mobile is moving its corporate headquarters to Japan after the end of its Sony-Ericsson joint venture, which was based in Sweden.
The company will lose 1,000 employees and consultants in the move, including 650 employees in the Swedish city of Lund. The remaining losses will mainly be consultants in Sweden, said Sony. In all, Sony Mobile will be losing 15% of its staff by March 2014.
?Sony has identified the mobile business as one of its core businesses and the Xperia smartphone portfolio continues to gain momentum with customers and consumers worldwide,? said Kunimasa Suzuki, President and CEO of Sony Mobile. ?We are accelerating the integration and convergence with the wider Sony group.?
The new headquarters will be in Tokyo, said the company. GTB
