Russia's Putin demands Stalin-era armament drive

Russia President Vladimir Putin on Friday demanded a new armament drive similar to the one orchestrated by the dictator Stalin in the worst years of his reign of terror in the 1930s.

"We must modernise our defence industry as comprehensively as it was done in the 1930s," Putin told top security ministers at the weekly Russian Security Council meeting.

Stalin helped revolutionise Russia's backward tsarist-era industry through a state campaign that relied heavilly on slave labour and was accompanied by political repression in which millions of people died over the years.

Russia has announced a massive armaments programme for the coming decade that should see 23 trillion rubles ($710 billion) spent on 400 ballistic missiles and 600 warplanes along with an entire fleet of submarines.

The plan has put pressure on other sectors of Putin's budget and on outdated Soviet-era military factories which are unable to cope with the sudden surge in demand for a new generation of weaponry.

Putin has expressed repeated frustration at the military churning out products such as tanks and weapons systems that cost more than their Western rivals while often failing in reliability tests.

The former KGB agent -- his macho image in his 12-year leadership career boosted by periodic televised spins in fighter jets and new tanks -- said he would make military purchases a focal point of his third term.

Putin said he had already asked his ministers to submit effective fixes to the military procurement process at the end of last year and again early this year.

"I still have not received your proposals. They are simply not there," Putin fumed. "If this continues, we will never be able to make (military) procurements on time."

Putin added that efficiency at enterprises might be improved if private players were allowed to acquire stakes in military production centres that they could then operate as profit-seeking businesses.

"We have to break down old stereotypes of the type that say only specialised state companies and agencies can involve themselves in defence," Putin said.

Battle over Sherman Hemsley's will heats up

Jim Spellman / WireImage file

By Bruna Nessif, E! Online

It's been over a month since the world lost Sherman Hemsley; however, "The Jeffersons" star has yet to be laid to rest.?According to the Sacramento Bee, Hemsley's embalmed body will be kept in refrigeration at an El Paso, Texas, funeral home until a local court rules on the validity of his will.

Sherman Hemsley dies at 74

There seems to be a dispute between Flora Enchinton, Hemsley's manager of over 20 years and "beloved partner," and Richard Thornton, a man who claims to be the actor's brother.

In the will Hemsley signed six weeks before his death, the TV legend named Enchinton as sole beneficiary of his estate, which is estimated at more than $50,000 according to court documents. But Thornton is saying that the will may not have been written up by Hemsley.

Let's take a look back on Sherman Hemsley's shining moments

"Some people come out of the woodwork -- they think Sherman, they think money," Enchinton -- who, at one point, had lived with Hemsley and his friend Kenny Johnston -- said. "But the fact it (sic) that I did not know Sherman when he was in the limelight. I met them when they (Hemsley and Johnston) came running from Los Angeles with not one penny, when there was nothing but struggle."

No autopsy needed for Hemsley's death

Enchinton also shared that throughout the time she'd known Hemsley, she never heard him speak of any relatives.

Court officials said there is no set date for this case to be heard.

Teach Your Kids and Teens the Dangers of Underage Drinking ...

?

Written By Chris Kuhn
Manager of Programs at The Century Council

USA.govWashington, D.C. ? Back to School is an exciting time for both students and parents as they prepare for a new school year and new challenges both in and out of the classroom. It also serves as a great time to remind students about the importance of staying safe and making healthy lifestyle choices.

The Century Council?s Ask Listen Learn: Kids and Alcohol Don?t Mix program provides youth, ages 9-14, and their parents with information about the dangers of underage drinking and the importance of living a healthy lifestyle.

In a recent survey conducted for The Century Council, it was noted that parents are the leading influence in their kid?s decision not to drink. The survey demonstrates the importance of parents and educators starting conversations with youth early and often about the risks and consequences surrounding underage drinking.

The Ask, Listen, Learn program provides materials for parents and instructors on how to start and continue the conversation with young people. The program also offers youth the opportunity to play fun kids? games, download printable activities, and read about Superstars like Olympian Steven Lopez, Soccer Hall of Famer Julie Foudy, and swimming champion Rebecca Soni.

According to the 2011 Monitoring the Future Study, nearly one third of 8th graders report they have tried alcohol once in their lifetime and 15 percent report they have been drunk. In a separate study, a majority (65 percent) of today?s youth who have consumed alcohol in the past year report family and friends as the leading source from which they get alcohol.

Make no mistake, tweens know what?s going on and they?re more than just a little curious about it. So before they?re presented with the opportunity, it?s critical to give them the information they need to make the right decision. Help support them by teaching them how to say ?Yes? to a healthy lifestyle and ?No? to underage drinking. Make sure that either as a parent, teacher, or caregiver, you get involved.

You can order free, single copies, of the Ask, Listen, Learn brochures for parents, educators and kids. If you?re interested in distributing the brochures at school or community events, you can also order these free publications in bulk quantities.

(AP) ? Isaac hovered over Louisiana for a third day Thursday, shedding more than a foot of additional rain that forced authorities to hurriedly evacuate areas ahead of the storm and rescue hundreds of people who could not escape as the rapidly rising waters swallowed entire neighborhoods.

The huge spiral weather system weakened to a tropical depression as it crawled inland, but it caught many places off guard by following a meandering, unpredictable path. The storm's excruciatingly slow movement meant that Isaac practically parked over low-lying towns and threw off great sheets of water for hours.

"I was blindsided. Nobody expected this," said Richard Musatchia, who fled his water-filled home in LaPlace, northwest of New Orleans.

Inside the fortified levees that protected New Orleans, bursts of sunshine streamed through the thick clouds, and life began to return to normal. But beyond the city, people got their first good look at Isaac's damage: Hundreds of homes were underwater. Half the state was without power at the one point. Thousands were staying at shelters.

And the damage may not be done. Even more rain was expected in Louisiana before the storm finally drifts into Arkansas and Missouri.

Isaac dumped as much as 16 inches in some areas, and about 500 people had to be rescued by boat or high-water vehicles. At least two deaths were reported.

Five feet of water poured into Musatchia's home before a neighbor passed by with a boat and evacuated him and his 6-year-old boxer, Renny.

He piled two suitcases, a backpack and a few smaller bags onto the boat and said that was all he had left. He abandoned a brand-new Cadillac and a Harley-Davidson.

"People have their generators, because they thought the power would go out, but no one expected" so much water, Musatchia said.

Other evacuees were picked up by National Guard vehicles, school buses and pickup trucks.

Daphine and David Newman fled their newly decorated home with two trash bags of clothing. They have lived in their subdivision since 1992 and never had water in their home from previous storms, not even Hurricane Katrina.

The comparison was common since Isaac hit on the seventh anniversary of the devastating 2005 storm, though the differences were stark.

Katrina was more powerful, coming ashore as a Category 3 storm. Isaac was a Category 1 at its peak. Katrina barreled into the state and quickly moved through. Isaac creeped across the landscape at less than 10 mph and wobbled constantly.

David Newman was frustrated that the government spent billions of dollars reinforcing New Orleans levees after Katrina, only to see the water inundating surrounding regions.

"The water's got to go somewhere," he said. "It's going to find the weakest link."

The sudden call for evacuations so long after the storm made landfall provoked a debate about whether anyone was to blame.

Jefferson Parish Council President Chris Roberts said forecasters at the National Hurricane Center in Miami needed a new way of measuring the danger that goes beyond wind speed.

"The risk that a public official has is, people say, 'Aw, it's a Category 1 storm, and you guys are out there calling for mandatory evacuations,'" Roberts said.

Hundreds of people in lower Jefferson chose to ride out the storm ? and many of them had to be rescued, he said.

Eric Blake, a specialist at the hurricane center, said that although Isaac's cone shifted west as it zigzagged toward the Gulf Coast, forecasters accurately predicted its path, intensity and rainfall. He did say the storm came ashore somewhat slower than anticipated.

Blake cautioned against using Katrina as a benchmark for flooding during other storms.

"Every hurricane is different," Blake said. "If you're trying to use the last hurricane to gauge your storm surge risk, it's very dangerous."

Along the shores of Lake Ponchartrain near New Orleans, officials sent scores of buses and dozens of high-water vehicles to help evacuate about 3,000 people as floodwaters lapped against houses and stranded cars.

The water rose waist-high in some neighborhoods, and the Louisiana National Guard worked with sheriff's deputies to rescue people stuck in their homes.

In LaPlace, a Coast Guard helicopter plucked a couple and their dogs from a home after storm surge gushed into their neighborhood and washed many houses away.

"They used a flashlight inside the house as a signaling device, which made all the difference in locating them effectively," Lt. Cmdr. Jorge Porto said.

Crews intentionally breached a levee that was strained by Isaac's floodwaters in southeast Louisiana's Plaquemines Parish, which is outside the federal levee system. At the same time, water at a dam farther north in Mississippi was released in an effort to prevent flooding there.

Since the storm arrived in the U.S., the first two fatalities were a tow truck driver hit by a tree that fell on his vehicle in Picayune, Miss., and a man who fell from a tree while helping friends move a vehicle. Deputies did not know why he climbed the tree.

Although New Orleans' bigger, stronger levee system easily handled the deluge from Isaac, rural areas beyond the city's fortifications had few defenses.

Isaac "has reinforced for us once again just how vulnerable these critical areas are," said Louisiana Sen. Mary Landrieu. "We must re-engage the Corps of Engineers on this."

More than 900,000 homes and businesses around the state ? about 47 percent of all customers ? were without power Thursday. Utility company Entergy said that included about 157,000 in New Orleans.

New Orleans' biggest problems seemed to be downed power lines, scattered tree limbs and minor flooding.

In Mississippi, several coastal communities struggled with all the extra water, including Pascagoula, where a large portion of the city flooded and water blocked downtown intersections.

High water also prevented more than 800 people from returning to their homes in Bay St. Louis, a small town that lost most of its business district to Katrina's storm surge.

Even though Isaac was weaker, Mayor Les Fillingame said, "every storm is somebody's Katrina, regardless of the intensity."

McCaskill Veterans' Event Irks Legionaires

ST. JOSEPH, Mo.?A routine campaign stop by Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill at an American Legion Hall on Wednesday ultimately irked veterans and forced the McCaskill campaign to apologize after officials from the nonpartisan legion said they did not know beforehand that the event would be political.

In one of two public events yesterday, McCaskill appeared at American Legion?Pony Express?Post 359 here with Sen. Jim Webb, D-Va., who grew up in the city, to tout her efforts to reduce contracting waste in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Hall Coordinator Janet Traylor and other legion officials said they granted McCaskill?s campaign free use of the facility because they were under the impression that the event would be a nonpolitical discussion of veterans? benefits, similar to one McCaskill, with aides from her Senate office in tow, held there in 2010. Legion officials? personal political preferences varied, but none called themselves McCaskill supporters or Democrats.

Before McCaskill?s remarks Wednesday, Post Commander Bernie Swartz, and District Post Commander Jerome Goolsby left the room, and Swartz said he scraped a plan to lead attendees in the pledge of allegiance.

Traylor, Goolsby, Swartz, and other legion officials said they were surprised and dismayed when they realized they were hosting a McCaskill campaign event. The American Legion is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization, and officials said they are prohibited from appearing at political events in legion attire or from allowing legion identification to appear in pictures or video or the event.

?When they slapped that [campaign] sign on, we scattered like roaches to clean everything up,? Traylor said. ?We feel we were misled.?I don?t appreciate as a hall coordinator being put in that position,? she said.

Legion officials said had they known it was a political event, they would have required the campaign to pay to use the hall.

The backlash was immensely awkward for the campaign because it threatened to undermine McCaskill?s effort to use the appearance to highlight her support for, and from, veterans. McCaskill last week traveled Missouri in what her campaign dubbed a ?Vets for Claire? tour.

Webb, a former Marine, decorated Vietnam veteran and onetime Navy secretary, said during his remarks that he felt awkward talking politics in an American Legion post.

Traylor said that McCaskil's campaign outreach director, Justin Vail, who set up the event, left her with the impression the event would be nonpartisan when they arranged it.

McCaskill aides declined to discuss conversations with legion officials on the record, but attributed the snafu to a communication failure, not false information. An e-mail that Vail sent to Goolsby on Tuesday evening clearly described the event as organized by McCaskill?s campaign.

?We?re incredibly sorry that any miscommunication might have occurred,? said Erik Dorey, a campaign spokesman. ?Claire takes her relationship with Missouri's veterans very seriously, and we would never do anything to put veterans' service organizations in an uncomfortable position.??

Vail also personally apologized to legion officials on Wednesday after learning of their concerns; the apology seemed to partly mollify the officials.

?Senators need to know they can come here, but there are correct policies and practices that they need to follow so we can be a proper host for them,? Goolsby said. ?So either they didn?t know it or they didn?t consider it, and we?re not happy about that, but they apologized for it, and it?s fine.?

Another legion official, Ron Rice, who helped arrange the event, downplayed the matter after speaking to Vail. ?It was just was just a simple misunderstanding, and we?re not irritated at all and we?re not upset at all,? he said. ?We just can?t endorse any political party.?

Amazon says Kindle Fire has 22 percent of U.S. market, is sold out

(Reuters) - Amazon.com Inc said on Thursday that its Kindle Fire tablet accounts for 22 percent of U.S. tablet sales and that the device is sold out.

The tablet hit stores last November at a cost well below that of Apple Inc's market-leading iPad.

Amazon is holding a press event next week in Santa Monica, California, fueling speculation it will launch new tablet devices.

Since the Kindle Fire launch last year, Google Inc has introduced a seven-inch tablet called Nexus 7, which has been selling well. Barnes & Noble Inc's Nook Tablet, introduced last autumn, has also been popular.

Amazon said its Kindle Fire is sold out, but its statement did not say when the device would be back in stock, nor how many Amazon has sold.

Since the launch of the tablet last year, Amazon's top-selling products have all been digital products such as music, videos and movies, Amazon said.

Take the Money and Run

Roger Goodell and Trent Richardson Trent Richardson holds up a Browns jersey as he stands alongside NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell at the 2012 NFL Draft

Photograph by Al Bello/Getty Images.

Trent Richardson, the Cleveland Browns? hugely talented rookie running back, just had his second knee surgery of 2012. The Browns, who drafted Richardson third overall out of the University of Alabama in April, say the rookie will be ready for the season opener on Sept. 9. Even so, the punishment Richardson took in college already seems to be catching up to him. In three seasons at Alabama, he carried the ball 540 times, taking innumerable shots from fast, enormous SEC defenders.

It doesn?t have to be this way. Imagine if this was Richardson?s third or fourth pro campaign rather than his first. Though he might still have knee problems, he?d at least have been compensated for his toil and would have a greater chance to earn a second, higher-paying contract before his body breaks down. And Richardson is one of the lucky ones. Consider all the star college running backs, from Marcus Dupree to Melvin Bratton to Greg Jones, who were injured in college and were never the same. For others, it's a matter of degree. Injuries started to bedevil Adrian Peterson in college. The Vikings running back, who tore the ACL and MCL in his left knee last December, has been a great pro. But how great might he have been without all the surgeries?

There isn?t much outcry to change the rule that prevents football players from turning pro until they?re three years out of high school. The toll the game takes on running backs, though, warrants a backfield exception. According to an NFL Players Association study from the early 2000s, running backs have the shortest careers of any position group at just 2.57 years. (That study put the overall average for an NFL player at 3.3 years.) It?s no surprise, then, that injured reserve data shows that proportionally, runners suffer more season-ending injuries than other players.

Football is a violent game on both the college and pro level. It?s immoral that the gladiators who entertain us on Saturdays don?t get paid by the schools they?re helping to enrich. It?s even worse that they don?t have the option to play on Sundays, where they?d be able to earn a living as they put themselves at risk. So I?m calling for an amendment to the NFL eligibility rule, allowing for running backs, and running backs alone, to turn pro straight out of high school, or at any point in their collegiate careers.

For the large majority of players, the gap between high school ball and the NFL is huge. Most players attempting to make the leap are likely to end up like Evel Knievel?fortunate to live through the experience. While only a handful of teenage runners each year would be ready to enter the pro game early, for them, college ball is merely an opportunity to accrue debilitating hits. Anyone who saw Richardson excel as a backup to Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram knew he was physically ready for pro football as a freshman. Ditto Peterson at Oklahoma and Ricky Williams at Texas. (If Williams had come out of school earlier, maybe he wouldn?t have needed to take his sabbatical in 2004.) The position also requires less of a transition period than any other. Though it?s important to learn the nuances of pass protection, the job description for running backs is mostly the same in the NFL and Pop Warner ball: See the hole, and get through it as quickly as possible.

Meanwhile, take a look at this year?s preseason All-SEC running backs. Both Marcus Lattimore of South Carolina (torn ACL) and Arkansas? Knile Davis (broken ankle) are coming off severe leg injuries. Even before his ligament tear, Gamecocks coach Steve Spurrier was running Lattimore into the ground. He had 249 carries as a freshman in 2010, including 37 in one game against Georgia and 40 in another against Florida. He was well on his way to surpassing that total last year when he ripped up his knee in October. Lattimore, whose season begins on Thursday night against Vanderbilt, has no choice but to go back to campus for a third year and continue to get pounded, putting his future earnings at risk.

Daytrading, Stock Trading, Investing and Forex Trading ? The Value ...

Some go on to make enough to live on, some an especially cushty living and some make a genuine fortune. There are numerous investors who make trading their sole occupation. Others return to their old job, annoyed and scared of ever doing anything different and giving up on their hopes of the life they actually wish to live. Here's a story about a man?? What if you might leverage a powerful solid research of market factors and patterns, correctly envisioning the best stocks to buy? What if androids can do all of that for you? These are what automated stock market dealing robotic systems do best. What if you had a technique to tell which stocks are intending to make a slaughtering in the market? Spot the ?gainers? earlier without counting on brokers or sly insider information. These systems scan the market steadily for the best emerging stocks. Stocks are influenced daily by foreseeable information and arithmetic.

This suggests you quickly know which stocks are going to make a gain. You can purchase inexpensive early and sell higher later earning masses of bucks each day or thousands of bucks each week on your investment with the best stockmarket trading system. The advantages of an automatic share trading robotic system are giant. As the more well capable you are on the language then you'll get more successful. The best thing about the stock market trader software is the incontrovertible fact that they're programmed to recognise the trends and advise you of which stocks are probably going to be good to make an investment in. * There are new technologies out there now that will seriously improve the probability for successful stock market trading.

They also are comparatively cheap and easy to utilise. If you're think about making an investment in a stock market trader software then it'd be to your benefit to learn all you are able to about the various type and the good points and bad points of every one before purchasing one. This is effective as the market advances in patterns which repeat themselves often each 7 years typically. Some automated stock market trading systems particularly target penny stocks and shares when attempting to find trading prospects. This may be seen and shown by the undeniable fact that we are going into and out of recessions continually whether or not it's larger or smaller one or more times ten years. This is effective because penny stocks and shares are the least expensive, most uncertain and wildly changing investments to be found in the market as it is far easier to persuade their position and price with less trading activity. As an example, the 1st automated securities dealing system pick which was aimed at penny stocks and shares especially which I invested in was priced at $.18 a share.

'Your Baby Can Read' is false advertising, FTC says

By JENNIFER C. KERR, Associated Press

?WASHINGTON --?The man behind the 'Your Baby Can Read' program ? videos claiming to teach infants to read ? is in trouble with the Federal Trade Commission.

The FTC has filed false and deceptive advertising charges against the creator, Robert Titzer, for promoting the program in ads and product packaging as a tool to teach infants as young as nine months to read. The 'Your Baby Can Read' program used a combination of videos, flash cards and pop-up books and was advertised extensively on television, YouTube, Facebook and Twitter.

The company Titzer founded, Your Baby Can, and its president until March 2010, have agreed to settle the FTC charges. The settlement imposes a $185 million judgment, most of which would be suspended due to the company's failing financial condition.?

Epic Gamer Artist: Locascio Designs | Epic Games Community

Welcome to this week?s edition of ?Epic Gamer Artists,? where Epic Games showcases amazing work from artists in the community. Tim from the Team Epic Gamers here, to introduce to you a very special feature this week.

I sat down with Michael Locascio from New Jersey, a sculptor who had been working professionally for almost 14 years. Many of his projects have included figures for McFarlane Toys, Blizzard, Gentle Giant, and NECA. You may recognize some of the figures; in fact, the work he?s done ultimately became final proofs early in the Gears of War line of NECA figures.

Say hello to Michael!

A: Tell us about yourself and what you do.

M: I studied classical sculpture at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine and the Newington Cropsey Foundation. Working with live models, skeletons, and annual cadaver dissections, I trained in anatomy and the bronze monument process there while studying at New York University. Since then I?ve worked as a fine artist in addition to building a prolific career sculpting action figures, toys, and collectible statues. I started with toys at the McFarlane Toys studio as an in house sculptor, and eventually went freelance working with other companies like NECA, DC Direct, Blizzard Entertainment, Diamond Select, Gentle Giant, and many others.

A: Are you a gamer? Do you play Gears of War?

M: I was a gamer for most of my life, growing up in the 80?s with arcades and the birth of console and computer games. Lately work and family has kept me from gaming, since it can really murder any free time I might have.

I played all the Warcraft incarnations since the early 90?s, but by the time I was sculpting action figures for them I had no time for playing. When I sculpted the Gears of War figures I played the game a bit to get the feel for the characters and the aesthetics of the game.

A: You?re a sculptor, and it?s pretty awesome to see what you come up with in your gallery. What materials do you usually work with?

M: Most of the toys I sculpt are in the 6?-12? range, with a few smaller and some larger. I learned how to sculpt with castilene wax at McFarlane and I?ve stuck with that material for the most part. Sometimes harder or softer clays are used, such as hazbro wax or chavant respectively. Also, for fabrication of mechanical pieces I use plastics like styrene.

A: Do you work as a professional artist?

M: Yes, I?ve been a professional artist for about 14 years.

A: Now I?ve noticed that you have some Locust designs in your gallery. They also look familiar? were they prototypes for NECA? Feel free to tell us a little bit about your creations.

M: All the Gears of War pieces in my gallery were prototypes for NECA action figures. I sculpted them twice the scale of the toys and they were pantographed down in production. The game designers provided excellent reference and turn-around art for the characters, and I did my best to get every detail faithful.

A: Do you also work in 2D, like drawing, or illustrating on paper?

M: When I started getting serious about art, I spent most of my time drawing and painting. But once sculpting really became a profession for me I have neglected other forms of art. Occasionally I have to sketch something out for a design, and I go to life drawing classes when I can.

Oddly enough, if I am drawing something from my head, I find it easier to grab some clay and rough it out, then look at the clay sculpt for reference in drawing.

A: Anything to say to your fellow Epic Gamers?

M: Video game characters are some of the most fun and rewarding projects I have worked on, and it?s awesome to hear appreciation from the people who love the games.

You can also check out Michael?s amazing work on Etsy, where you?ll find his sculptures, jewelry and more.

So You Want to be a Full Time Real Estate Investor?

leaving the 9-5 job behind

Reading Michael Zuber?s post the other day got me thinking back to the days when I was a newbie investor and still had a full time day job.? My weekends were pretty full also, as well as many of my nights after work.? My wife and I worked very hard, buying and rehabbing properties, dealing with tenants, raising and saving capital.? Heck, I even cut all the yards for a while. However, we worked so hard because we had a goal.

That goal was to become full time investors and leave the 9 to 5 world behind.? I think many people who get into real estate investing share the same goal.? They want to change the path they are on. ?They want to build wealth and have the time and flexibility to enjoy life.? Real estate can do all these things for you and more.? It is not easy though.? If it was everyone would be doing it. ?So if becoming a full time real estate investor is one of your goals . . .

Here are some thoughts and tips before you leap into the full time investor world and quit your day job:

  • Be sure to start and keep a monthly household and business budget.? You must have a firm idea of what money is coming in and where it is going out.? Only then can you begin to think about what it will take to leave your day job behind.
  • Know what you ?jump off? point is.? If you know you will need a minimum of $30,000 once you quit your day job, and you know you can get a cash flow of $150 per month per property in your market, then you know you will need 17 or so properties/units to reach your ?jump off? point.
  • Some of your expenses may go down once you leave your day job.? Things such as gas for that commute or dry cleaning may no longer be needed.? Other expenses may increase like utilities since you may now work out of your house all day (and keep the air or the heat turned up).
  • One big expense to plan for is health insurance.? Do some research and shop around.
  • Don?t cut all the fun stuff out of your budget.? While you may need to cut some costs at first, remember to have some fun as well.
  • Put some reserves away if you can before you quit.? Having reserves will not only help you sleep at night but it will get you through some unforeseen rough patches.? Plus bankers really like to see reserves on that balance sheet these days.
  • Keep your cards close until you are ready to make your move.? There is no need for you to rock the boat until you are ready.? When you are ready to make your move, give plenty of notice, do not gloat, be gracious and never burn that bridge.? You never know when you may need someone later on.
  • Make a plan for your real estate business.? Outline some goals and set a path to achieve those goals.? Sure you can enjoy a little time when you first get out, but remember it will be all up to you once you are on your own.
  • Make sure that your sources of capital, such as banks, are ok with you leaving the ?working world.?? Will your sources of capital dry up along with your W-2 income?

Finally, do not be afraid to get up on the diving board and jump in when you are ready.? I was very excited when the day finally came and I have never looked back.? I know the though of leaving that security can be scary, but you will be amazed how much you real estate business grows once you can focus on it full time.? What tips do you other full time investors have for those just starting out?

Till next time, happy investing!

LG Optimus G revealed: 1.5GHz quad-core CPU, ICS, LTE, 4.7-inch screen with in-cell touch

LG Optimus G revealed 15GHz quadcore CPU, ICS, LTE, 47inch screen with incell touch

LG has been teasing its upcoming Optimus G smartphone for weeks after promising LTE phones that would be "second to none" and now we finally have the full specs. When it arrives in Korea next month it will be the first with LTE mounted to a quad-core CPU, thanks to the 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ8064 at its center. The display is also groundbreaking, featuring LG's fully integrated touch technology -- sounds like its new in-cell touch to us --for a thinner screen and bezel. It's a True HD (1280 x 768) IPS LCD, and LG claims when it's turned off the 3mm bezel and body of the phone match the screen when it's turned off. Just the leaks indicated, it also has 2GB of RAM, a 13MP rear camera, 1.3MP front camera and 2,100mAh battery, all while measuring only 8mm thick.

The only bad news so far? It will arrive in Korea next month (and on NTT Docomo in October or November as the L-01E in black and red, seen after the break) with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, not Jelly Bean. The software will be as we've seen on other high-powered LG units like the Optimus Vu, with the addition of a "live zoom" feature on video and Dual Screen Dual Play mirroring for external displays. The real triumph for LG however, is its ability to vertically integrate technology from its various units to create the device. LG Chem provided a battery that is the first to offer a lifespan of 800 cycles, while LG Display created the screen and partnered with LG Innotek on the G2 Touch Hybrid Display unibody tech that eliminates the gap between the glass and the LCD panel. A worldwide launch is promised later in the year, although we'd expect to hear more soon at IFA 2012.

DALLAS Aug. 27, 2012 Being physically fit during your 30s, 40s, and 50s not only helps extend lifespan, but it also increases the chances of aging healthily, free from chronic illness, investigators at UT Southwestern Medical Center and The Cooper Institute have found.

For decades, research has shown that higher cardiorespiratory fitness levels lessen the risk of death, but it previously had been unknown just how much fitness might affect the burden of chronic disease in the most senior years a concept known as morbidity compression.

"We've determined that being fit is not just delaying the inevitable, but it is actually lowering the onset of chronic disease in the final years of life," said Dr. Jarett Berry, assistant professor of internal medicine and senior author of the study available online in the Archives of Internal Medicine.

Researchers examined the patient data of 18,670 participants in the Cooper Center Longitudinal Study, research that contains more than 250,000 medical records maintained over a 40-year span. These data were linked with the patients' Medicare claims filed later in life from ages 70 to 85. Analyses during the latest study showed that when patients increased fitness levels by 20 percent in their midlife years, they decreased their chances of developing chronic diseases congestive heart failure, Alzheimer's disease, and colon cancer decades later by 20 percent.

"What sets this study apart is that it focuses on the relationship between midlife fitness and quality of life in later years. Fitter individuals aged well with fewer chronic illnesses to impact their quality of life," said Dr. Benjamin Willis of The Cooper Institute, first author on the study.

This positive effect continued until the end of life, with more-fit individuals living their final five years of life with fewer chronic diseases. The effects were the same in both men and women.

These data suggest that aerobic activities such as walking, jogging, or running translates not only into more years of life but also into higher quality years, compressing the burden of chronic illness into a shorter amount of time at the end of life, Dr. Berry said.

According to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), adults should get at least 2 hours of moderate to intense aerobic activity each week to ensure major heart and overall health benefits.

UT Southwestern has a partnership with The Cooper Institute, the preventive medicine research and educational nonprofit located at the Cooper Aerobics Center, to develop a joint scientific medical research program aimed at improving health and preventing a wide range of chronic diseases. One of the world's most extensive databases, the Cooper Center Longitudinal Study includes detailed information from clinic visits that has been collected since Dr. Kenneth Cooper founded the institute and clinic in 1970.

Other UT Southwestern researchers involved in the study include Dr. David Leonard, assistant professor of clinical sciences, and Ang Gao, a biostatistical consultant in internal medicine. The study was funded with support from the NHLBI and the American Heart Association.
