This weekend, don?t be surprised if you see a whole bunch of people running around Renton with cameras in hand.
This is the weekend when 25 teams will film their entries in Renton FilmFrenzy V.? That number of teams breaks the previous all-time high of 24? set in 2009. Twenty of the producers and teams are new to the competition; there are 13 entries in the student division and 12 in the open division.
?We are really excited about this number of entrants and the diverse array of competitors,? said Suzanne Dale Estey, the City of Renton?s economic development director.
The 50-hour competition started at 5 p.m. today (Friday) when the teams were emailed their? ?Curveballs,? which are a location, a piece of dialogue and an object they need to include in their four-minute films.
Each team must use the words "SIFF-Renton," must shoot a scene at the new Renton Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center in downtown Renton and incorporate the city's newest public art, "Wings and Wheels" by Judith and Daniel Caldwell on the Logan Avenue trail.
Deadline to write, film and edit a film is 7 p.m. Sunday; films are turned in at the Berliner Pub on Main Avenue.
Many teams are from Renton, but there are competitors from Des Moines, Tacoma,? Bellevue and Seattle.
All the films will be screened on Oct. 22 at the Renton Civic Theater, with the Curvee Awards Gala on? Oct. 23 at the IKEA Performing Arts Center.
After the awards are presented at the gala, the Renton Reporter will once again launch the voting for the People's Choice Award at Rentonreporter.com. That's the chance for fans to pick their favorite film.
