KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) ? Miguel Cabrera plans to start at third base the final two games of the regular season as the Detroit Tigers star pursues the first Triple Crown in 45 years.
Manager Jim Leyland asked Cabrera before Tuesday night's game in Kansas City whether he wanted to DH or even sit out one of the remaining games, but Cabrera said he preferred to be in the lineup when the Tigers took on the Royals.
Cabrera leads the American League with a .329 batting average, 44 homers and 137 RBIs. He went 4 for 5 with a homer in the series opener Monday night, when the Tigers clinched the AL Central title and back-to-back playoff berths for the first time since 1934-35.
The last player to achieve the Triple Crown was Boston's Carl Yastrzemski in 1967.
